The Eruption: Spring break pt. 3

Extra, Extra, read all about it!
Mt. Etna erupts on Wednesday March, 23 2011, to the astonishment and excitement of tourists and onlookers, who watch the lava creep slowly down the slopes.

OK, so maybe I didn't witness any stupendous lava flows.... just a wall of photos of the recent eruptions of Mount Etna, and a really awesome video about Volcanic eruptions. Want to know about the recent eruptions of Etna (2000,2001) or the role modern science has played in predicting and diminishing the destructive affects of volcanoes? While most people took 10-15 minute breaks from their skiing and hiking to watch the informative video, Shaili and I sat through and thoroughly enjoyed all 54 minutes!

Our drive on the bus afforded us views of the landscape in the wake of the lava. The sides of the mountain covered by large fields of recently formed volcanic rock. In the picture following it, the remains of a house, engulfed by the lava can be seen.

Rather than having a hot, red, lava filled day, our experience looked a little bit more like a winter wonderland!
A picture of us looking back at the lodge/life on our first hike of the day, amidst the haze of a snow cloud

Me and my beautiful snow angel. I was seriously proud of it, I don't think I've even made such as awesome one before! (The execution of a good snow angel depends entirely upon its makers ability to withstand gravity and prop themselves with out falling back down, or making a an imprint on the angel of your knee/ankle/any other appendage- how I managed to accomplish this, I do not know!)

A close up of my perfect angel :)

Mt. Etna is being eaten by a cloud!

The snowflakes that fell were absolutely perfect, and looked they were paper cut-outs

Our Epic snowman

Him a few moments after the previous picture...apparently volcanic rock and snowmen don't mix

Amy is king of the Hill! You know you're an archaeology major when: your art history course has you analyzing your own pictures. Is it just me, or does this picture seem reminiscent of Alexander the great? My stance, along with my slightly raised head, reinforces my claim to this hill because I have visual associated myself with the great Roman generals of the past, and their Greek predecessor Alexander the Great.

  1. I like your theory about snow angels amy! I think you have really forwarded the theories of proper execution currently out there :)
